May 1, 2001 13:30: POLICE officers unearthed £5,000 of counterfeit bank notes when they swooped at a home in an operation at Castleton Road, Mottingham, on April 24.
The English £50 and £5 notes and Scottish £20 notes were recovered by officers, along with computer equipment, specialist paper and other counterfeiting materials.
Omer Bessim, 26, from Sydenham, was charged by the police with making counterfeit currency, passing counterfeit currency and owning counterfeiting equipment.
He was arrested on April 24 and appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court the next day.
Mr Bessim did not make a plea and will appear at Croydon Magistrates Court again on May 2.
