SCHOOL children guessed the age of an ancient yew in a Bromley church yard as part of National Tree Week.
The kids, from Downe Primary School, in High Elms Road, Downe, wrote their estimates of the tree's age on a large piece of card.
Then they measured the girth of the trunk, which turned out to be 28ft. This suggests the tree, in Downe Church Yard, in Downe High Street, is around 1,300 years old.
As well as promoting National Tree Week, the event was used to publicise Bromley's Ancient Tree Campaign. This campaign aims to record and map as many ancient trees as possible, allowing landowners to conserve and enhance current stocks.
