A paedophile martial arts teacher who abused a child in front of her own mum, a drill rapper who escaped custody twice in a week, and a thug who tried to kill two women are among the south London criminals who were jailed in August
Here are the names and faces of the men who were sentenced to prison last month.
Paedo martial arts teacher abused child in front of her mum
Martial arts teacher Tony Swanson, 75, of Wren Road in Swanson, sexually abused a child in front of her own mum.
Tony Swanson, founder of the Taoist Arts Organisation (TAO), met the child at classes he ran at a church hall in Beckenham in the mid-2000s.
Described as "charismatic" and "very powerful", Swanson groomed the girl before he went on to sexually abuse and rape her repeatedly over the course of around three years.
Swanson was sleeping with the girl's mum at the time of the abuse.
On various occasions he had sex with the mum while the daughter was made to watch, raped the child in front of her mum, and tried to force the girl to perform oral sex on her own mum.
Swanson was sentenced to 25 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of 15 child sex offences, including four counts of rape.
Police said they believe Swanson may have other victims who have yet to come forward, as he taught children in Beckenham and Sidcup area in the early 2000s.
Drill rapper escaped prison custody twice in a week
Daniel Boakye, 21, sparked a nationwide manhunt after he escaped prison custody twice in the space of one week.
The drill rapper escaped from prison guards who had taken him to West Middlesex University Hospital by slipping out of handcuffs while using the toilet.
He was found in Thamesmead the next day, but he managed to escape for a second time days later while he was being pushed around Lewisham Hospital in a wheelchair with no handcuffs on.
Boakye, who performs under the name Dsavv, was eventually arrested in La Bouëxière in Brittany 16 days later.
His escapes made national headlines and while on the run, Boakye taunted the police in a rap video which included the lyrics "I just broke out of jail like Modie", referring to a character from the TV series Top Boy, and bragged about being "fresh home", champagne and cannabis.
He has now been jailed for 10 months for escaping lawful custody.
It was revealed that police still have no idea how he left the country and entered France.
Thug tried to kill two women in brutal hammer attack
Gerard Parkinson, 64, of Parkhill Road in Sidcup, tried to kill two women using a hammer and knife.
The attack took place at a house in Bonney Way, Swanley, on March 1, 2023.
During the late morning, Parkinson attacked the first victim in the kitchen, striking her in the head with a club hammer and knocking her unconscious.
He then went upstairs and stabbed the second victim, who was asleep, in the chest then struck her on the head with the hammer.
Despite serious injuries, the second woman managed to wrestle the weapon away from him and screamed for help.
A relative who tried to intervene was also injured.
The woman escaped the house, and Parkinson then attacked the first victim again as she regained consciousness and tried to leave.
A neighbour restrained Parkinson until police arrived.
Parkinson was found guilty of two charges of attempted murder and was sentenced to 28 years in prison with an additional five years on licence.
Beauty parlour boss raped woman in alley
Former beauty parlour owner Javaughn Brown, 36, from Maidstone, raped a woman behind his premises in Sidcup.
The attack took place in October 2022 in an alleyway by the shop that Brown ran with his partner.
The victim was a much-younger woman who was heavily intoxicated, a court heard.
She had to attend hospital to receive help removing a sanitary product that had been further lodged inside her.
When he was arrested, Brennan claimed they had consensual intercourse.
But Brown was found guilty of rape by a unanimous jury was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison.
Drug dealers stormed into vape shop armed with handgun
Alexander Emmerich, 28, and Stephen Hand, 29, both from Crayford, are drug dealers and armed robbers.
The pair used a handgun to rob the same shop on Gilbert Lane, Belvedere, twice in January last year.
They were then arrested while fleeing a vape shop on Stanhope Road, Swanscombe, where they had carried out a third armed robbery.
Both men were convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery. Last November, Emmerich was sentenced to 11 years and 9 months in prison, while Hand was jailed for nine years.
During the robbery investigation, police discovered that Emmerich and Hand, both formerly of Thames Road in Crayford, were also involved in cocaine dealing.
The pair have now been sentenced to more jail time after they pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine.
Prosecutor Simon Foster said messages found on their phones revealed that Emmerich was heavily involved in the supply of cocaine and had enlisted Hand and a woman named Hannah Sims to deal it to users on his behalf.
Mr Foster said: "Mr Hand was a user of cocaine and was in debt to Mr Emmerich. Mr Hand is referred to as Mr Emmerich’s worker.
"He was caught taking cocaine he should have been selling, which resulted in him being in debt to Mr Emmerich."
In one message, Emmerich told Hand: "Count yourself f***ing lucky Steve, do the job."
Predator raped woman in caravan after horse show
Ryan Dinnage, 32, from Croydon, raped a woman in her caravan after the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
He entered the sleeping woman's caravan and then sexually assaulted her following the final day of the equestrian show. The victim had been working at the event.
Dinnage was arrested the following day but initially denied having engaged in any sexual activity with the victim.
When forensic evidence linked him to the attack he changed his account of the incident and claimed the sexual activity had been consensual.
A jury unanimously found Dinnage guilty of one count of rape and was sentenced to eight years and six months’ imprisonment.
