A Bexley man attempted to dodge paying road tax with a simple trick which went wrong after he got caught.
Gregory Rowley, 67, tampered with the number plates on his car in the hopes of evading payment.
He changed the final letter of his Nissan X-Trail SUV from a J to a U so it looked like the index of another car that was properly taxed.
The 67-year-old was busted by officers on April 17 this year on Crook Log in Bexleyheath.

Rowley appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (August 27) where he pleaded guilty to fraudulently altering a registration mark.
He was handed a £1,278 fine, was told to pay a £511 surcharge and £85 towards prosecution costs.
Rowley was given until September 24 to pay in full.
