Which south-east London borough had the most crime in July?

South-east London, which includes Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham and Southwark, saw a rise in reported crime at the end of July when compared to June.

A total of 13,855 offences were logged in June, up 8 per cent compared to the 12,788 logged in June.

Southwark recorded the highest number of offences, with 3,599 crimes reported during the month, which was actually less when compared to June.

Theft was the most common offence in the borough with 1,839 incidents, followed by violence against the person with 920 reports.

There were also 287 vehicle offences, 201 burglaries, 211 robberies, 187 arson and criminal damage offences, 222 public order offences, and 145 drug offences.

Together, theft and violence against the person accounted for more than half of all offences recorded in the borough.

Lewisham had the second-highest crime total, with 3,076 offences in July.

Violence against the person and theft were again the most frequently recorded crimes, with 1,030 and 673 reports, respectively.

This was followed by 298 vehicle offences and 246 public order offences.

Overall, the figures show a similar pattern to Southwark, with violent and theft crimes making up the majority of offences recorded.

Greenwich ranked third, with 2,756 offences reported during the month, up 7.3 per cent compared to June.

The borough recorded 934 incidents of violence against the person and 631 theft offences, alongside 301 vehicle crimes.

There were also 173 public order offences, 172 arson and criminal damage offences, as well as 166 burglaries.

Bromley was next in the rankings, with 2,277 offences reported in July.

Despite being London’s largest borough by area, it recorded considerably fewer offences than its inner London neighbours.

This included 683 cases of violence against the person, 514 thefts and 345 vehicle offences.

Police also recorded 170 arson and criminal damage offences, 204 public order offences, and 104 burglaries.

Bexley recorded the lowest number of reported offences in south-east London, with 1,537 crimes.

Police dealt with 572 reports of violence against the person, 372 thefts, 142 public order offences, and 121 vehicle offences.

Overall, crime levels in Bexley remained significantly lower than the sub-regional average.

Since the start of this year, the overall pattern has remained largely unchanged, with Southwark recording the highest number of reported offences in south-east London every month, followed by Bexley recording the lowest.

Across the boroughs, theft and violence against the person have consistently been the two most commonly recorded crime types, accounting for a significant proportion of offences.
