Van driver pleads guilty to death of man by dangerous driving on M23

Vilius Domarkas, 38, on Thursday pleaded guilty at Hove Crown Court to causing the death of Anthony Howe on July 8.

Domarkas admitted driving a Citroen Relay dangerously on the southbound carriageway of the motorway.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision between a van and a highways worker on the southbound carriageway at Junction 9 just before 1am on July 8.

Mr Howe, 65, from Kent, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On the same day, Domarkas was arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

It is understood that Mr Howe was known by his friends and family as 'Scotty' and has been remembered as being "much loved."

Mr Howe is believed to have been working on the motorway at the time of the collision.

A fundraiser set up by work colleagues for his family has raised £8,962 of its £12,000 goal at the time of writing.

Sussex Police said in July that they were continuing to support the victim's family following the "tragic incident."

Family members attended Thursday's court hearing both in person and remotely.

Domarkas will return to court for sentencing on September 28.
