Thames Water to close several roads across Bromley

A temporary traffic order has been issued by Bromley Council to support repair and maintenance work being carried out by the water company, affecting a number of roads across the borough.

The order took effect on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and has a maximum duration of up to 18 months, although closures and restrictions will only be in place as and when indicated by traffic signs.

In a public notice, Daniel Jones, director of environment and public protection at Bromley Council, said: "The council of the London Borough of Bromley hereby give notice that in order to allow Thames Water to complete repair and maintenance works in the streets listed in the schedule below.

"They have made an order the effect of which will be to impose the following restrictions on vehicular traffic."

The order includes a ban on waiting, vehicle access, and changes to traffic flow as required by the works, with traffic diverted onto nearby roads except in cul-de-sacs.

It also states that vehicles parked in violation of these restrictions may be removed, in line with the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986.

Mr Jones said: "The order will come into effect on Wednesday 5th August 2026 with no specified finish date.

"The order will have a maximum duration of 18 months and works will begin on or after the commencement date of the order.

"Access to properties will be maintained as far as is practicable from either side of the closure as appropriate.

"Emergency access and egress routes will be maintained at all times."

He added that the restrictions will only apply during periods clearly marked by traffic signage and will not affect vehicles directly involved in the works.

The order also does not apply to actions carried out under the direction of police officers or civil enforcement officers.

The roads affected include Beckenham Lane and Bourne Road in Bromley, Braemar Gardens in West Wickham, Chatham Avenue in Hayes, and Clock House Road in Beckenham.

Other roads include College Road, Gravel Pit Way in Orpington, Green Lane in Chislehurst, Haysleigh Gardens in Penge, Hazelmere Road in Petts Wood, and Jaffray Road, Bromley.

Leaves Green Crescent in Keston, Links Road in Beckenham, Madeira Avenue, Main Road in St Paul’s Cray, Poverest Road in St Mary Cray, Sandford Road in Bromley, Sunningvale Avenue in Biggin Hill, and West Street in Bromley are also listed.
