Which south-east London borough had the most crime in June?

South-east London, which includes Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham, and Southwark, saw a slight rise in reported crime at the end of June when compared to May.

A total of 12,812 offences were logged in June, up just 5.1 per cent compared to the 12,191 logged in May.

Southwark recorded the highest number of offences, with 3,775 crimes reported during the month.

Theft was the most common offence in the borough with 1,551 incidents, followed by violence against the person with 905 reports.

There were also 216 vehicle offences, 201 burglaries, 187 robberies, 184 arson and criminal damage offences, 206 public order offences, and 147 drug offences.

Together, theft and violence against the person accounted for more than half of all offences recorded in the borough.

Lewisham had the second-highest crime total, with 2,857 offences in June.

Violence against the person and theft were again the most frequently recorded crimes, with 948 and 710 reports, respectively.

This was followed by 246 vehicle offences and 211 public order offences.

Overall, the figures show a similar pattern to Southwark, with violent and theft crimes making up the majority of offences recorded.

Greenwich ranked third, with 2,588 offences reported during the month, up 11.6 per cent compared to May.

The borough recorded 951 incidents of violence against the person and 573 theft offences, alongside 230 vehicle crimes.

There were also 187 public order offences, 149 arson and criminal damage offences, as well as 230 vehicle offences.

Bromley was next in the rankings, with 2,103 offences reported in June.

Despite being London’s largest borough by area, it recorded considerably fewer offences than its inner London neighbours.

This included 625 cases of violence against the person, 453 thefts and 331 vehicle offences.

Police also recorded 331 arson and criminal damage offences, 175 public order offences, and 105 burglaries.

Bexley recorded the lowest number of reported offences in south-east London, with 1,489 crimes.

Police dealt with 571 reports of violence against the person, 290 thefts, 135 public order offences, and 134 vehicle offences.

Overall, crime levels in Bexley remained significantly lower than the sub-regional average.

Since the start of this year, the overall pattern has remained largely unchanged, with Southwark recording the highest number of reported offences in south-east London every month, followed by Bexley recording the lowest.

Across the boroughs, theft and violence against the person have consistently been the two most commonly recorded crime types, accounting for a significant proportion of offences.
