Sydenham to host weekly night markets from July until September

Launching this Friday, July 17, Sydenham Night Market will take place every Friday until September 18.

The new night market, held on Sydenham Station Approach, will be free to enter and will host around 10 local traders offering street food and drinks, alongside a programme of activities for all ages.  

Due to the market, the street will also be closed every Friday between 3pm and 11pm.

Despite the road closure, pedestrian access to Sydenham station will remain open via Sydenham Station Approach and the Silverdale Road passageway.

A temporary bay will be provided for drop-offs and emergency vehicles, while residents and businesses with access concerns can contact Lewisham Council.

Lewisham Council and supported by The Food Market Company,organisers behind the popular Catford Food Market, Beckenham Place Park Market and Clock Tower Market.

The market is being funded through the Mayor of London's Summer Streets programme.

Having started out with a Buffalo chicken wings street food business in 2018, the pair have gone on to run markets across the region, including Beckenham Place Park and Catford Food Market.

Their appointment to run Catford's long-established food market in 2024 cemented their reputation in the local food scene, with the duo championing independent traders and community-focused events. Now, they are bringing that experience to Sydenham with the launch of their first regular night marke.

Councillor Shireen Asaw, Cabinet Member for Business, Workers and Skills, said: "Lewisham is known for our incredible food and drink scene, and this brand new night market is a great way to showcase local businesses and traders, attract visitors to the area and create an evening destination for the warmer months.

"We are committed to helping our high streets thrive and strengthening the local economy, and this project is part of our work to encourage more people to discover everything the south of the borough has to offer.”
