A Peckham man has been jailed after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl on a train.
Abdulmanon Aliev, 50, of Rye Lane in south London, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday, June 23.
He was found guilty of attempted rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and three counts of sexual assault following an investigation led by British Transport Police (BTP).
The incident took place on June 16, 2025, while the victim was travelling on a train from Southend to London.
During the journey, Aliev approached her, sat opposite, and tried to communicate using a translation app on his phone.
The girl moved to a different seat, but Aliev followed and sat beside her in the aisle seat, trapping her by the window.
He then subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault before the train arrived at London Fenchurch Street.
After escaping the train, the victim boarded another service out of London and reported the assault to members of the public, who alerted the police.
BTP detectives launched an immediate investigation and reviewed hours of CCTV footage to trace Aliev’s movements.
He was arrested by plain-clothes officers in Peckham on June 27.

Detective Constable Elizabeth Cahill of BTP said: "Aliev singled out a vulnerable child and subjected her to one of the most abhorrent sexual assaults I’ve ever investigated.
"While the focus of attention will rightly be on him as the despicable sexual predator that he is, I want to pay tribute to the brave victim who reported him to police.
"His conviction and 12-year jail term would not have been possible without her account of what happened and her willingness to support our investigation.
"We take every sexual offence report extremely seriously, and we’ll stop at nothing to ensure vile offenders like Aliev are put behind bars where they belong."
