A business owner in Hither Green has been crowned one of the best fitness instructors in the UK.

Tara Riley, who founded The Lane, was named a winner at the Muddy Awards 2026 in the Sport / Fitness Instructor category, beating a strong field of finalists from across London.

Covering more than 31 lifestyle categories across 35 counties, the Muddy Awards highlight the UK’s best independent businesses, from food and drink to entertainment, with customers urged to vote for their favourites.

Tara, who is a movement specialist trained in Pilates, barre and strength disciplines, offers a range of classes including pregnancy Pilates, dance‑cardio, strength training and barre.

Tara used her knowledge and commitment to create a unique teaching approach. Her aim is to encourage long‑term movement and to help people stay active throughout their lives.

Tara said: “I’m deeply committed to exceptional teaching and helping people move well, build strength and feel their best, whether they’re returning from injury, stepping into their first class, or have been part of the community for years.”

She later expanded the business with a subscription‑based on‑demand platform, offering more than 100 classes. Users can filter sessions by level, duration, equipment and focus area, with content accessible across multiple devices.

The brand also runs wellness retreats abroad. Tara added that the business is set to go global, with retreats in Greece and Ibiza planned.

Tara added: “I’m honestly over the moon. Winning Best Fitness Instructor in the Muddy Stilettos Awards London means the world to me.

“This business has been built with a huge amount of passion, hard work and heart, so to be recognised alongside so many brilliant South London businesses is incredibly special.

“What makes it even more meaningful is that it was voted for by my community.

"Creating a welcoming space filled with good energy, where people feel stronger, more confident and genuinely excited to move, is what it’s all about for me.”

The studio can be found at The Lane, 136 Hither Green Lane.
