A man has been banned from keeping animals for nine years after he physically abused a dog.
Leslie Hill, 61, of Longley Street in Bermondsey, pleaded guilty to an offence under the Animal Welfare Act.
Court documents state he failed to ensure the welfare of bull breed dog named Darcy by failing to provide a suitable environment and subjecting the dog to physical abuse.
He was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (May 21).
Alongside the nine-year ban, Hill was fined £200 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £114 and prosecution costs of £85.
He was also handed a community order requiring him to complete up to 20 days of rehabilitation activities.
The court ordered that the sum of £399 be deducted from his benefits.
Hill was formally deprived of ownership of Darcy.
The case was brought by the RSPCA.
