Plans have been lodged to transform historic railway arches in Deptford into business units.

Plans submitted to Lewisham Council by The Arch Company Properties Limited outline proposals to transform four railway units in Arklow Road into business spaces.

These Grade II listed railway arches, located between Kerry Road and Childers Street, date back to 1836. They sit close to Deptford and New Cross stations, with Evelyn Green open space to the north.

Proposals outline plans to convert the arches, currently used as open yard space, into enclosed buildings and storage units that can be used for business purposes.

The scheme would involve enclosing four currently open arches to create new internal commercial floorspace.

New frontages, including doors, shutters and glazing, would be installed alongside access points and subdivisions to form individual units.

There would also be extensions into the existing yard areas to provide servicing and loading space, as well as operational areas for businesses.

External improvements would include upgraded delivery access arrangements, cycle parking and refuse storage.

The works have been designed to preserve the historic structure, with interventions intended to be reversible and avoid damage to the Grade II listed viaduct.

Developers say the scheme would create new employment space and support Deptford’s growing business and creative economy.

The proposals aim to bring the arches back into active use as part of a wider cluster of railway arch businesses in the area.
