Five men who chased down and fatally stabbed a man in a brutal knife attack in south east London have been jailed for life.
On April 14, 2025, Giovanny Rendon Bedoya was cornered and attacked by the group after being pursued through an alleyway near Hillingdon Street and Langdale Close in Walworth.
Police were called at just before 9.20pm and found Giovanny suffering multiple stab wounds behind residential flats.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at 10.07pm.
A post-mortem examination concluded he died from multiple sharp force injuries.
An extensive investigation by the Met Police, which included reviewing more than 1,500 hours of CCTV footage, helped identify the five attackers and piece together their movements before and after the killing.
Officers established that the group had acted together in a sustained and violent assault.
Bryan Villada Hernandez, 20, was arrested at the scene.
Forensic tests later found the victim’s blood on his clothing, along with damage consistent with concealing a knife.
Further CCTV showed Angel Gonzalez Angulo, 19, changing his clothes and carrying a bin bag believed to contain blood-stained items and weapons.
He and Zozoro Mohamed Olivier Boizo, 21, had fled the address and taken a taxi to a friend’s home.
The investigation also traced the group back to a squat in Langdale Close.
Joseph Jimenez, 22, was arrested in Chichester on April 21 after fleeing London.
Angulo was arrested on April 23, while Boizo was detained on May 2.
Christian Batista Gonzalez, 22, fled the UK and was later arrested near Barcelona on May 19 before being extradited back to Britain.
All five were convicted of murder following an 11-week trial and were sentenced at the Old Bailey on today (May 20).
Jimenez and Gonzalez were each sentenced to life imprisonment with minimum terms of 22 years.
Angulo, Hernandez and Boizo were each sentenced to life with minimum terms of 21 years.
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said: “Today’s sentences show that those who commit vicious and brutal attacks will face significant, life-altering consequences.
“The group acted together during a sustained and extremely violent attack, chasing and killing Giovanny, showing brutality and reckless violence.
“Our thoughts remain with Giovanny’s family and friends, who have shown immense courage and dignity throughout.
“I hope they can find some sort of peace following the conclusion of the trial.”
In a victim impact statement, Giovanny’s mother said: “I want the world to know that my son was innocent.
“He had no part in any of the earlier events that evening.
“He came out of his address and within seconds was met with violence. He was not carrying a weapon.
“He did not go out to harm anyone.
“For whatever reason they chose my son, they took away his life in the most brutal of ways.”
“My son was killed in a country that I do not know, and I do not speak the language of.
“My life will not be long enough for me to be able to thank you for the work that has been done.”
