Herne Hill has once again been recognised as one of south east London’s standout neighbourhoods, with three of its independent businesses named finalists in the 2026 Muddy Stilettos Awards.
The popular awards, run by lifestyle guide Muddy Stilettos, celebrate the very best independent businesses across the UK, highlighting everything from restaurants and retailers to family experiences and wellbeing services.
Winners are decided through public votes, making them a strong reflection of local support and community pride.
Among this year’s finalists, Herne Hill is flying the flag with three nominations: Lulu’s for Best Farm Shop/Deli, Bartley’s Flowers for Best Florist, and 2210 by NattyCanCook for Best Restaurant.
Lulu’s, described as the “younger sister” of Llewelyn’s, offers a mix of deli and café culture by day, serving pastries, coffee, salads and sandwiches alongside a carefully curated selection of produce.
By night, it transforms into an intimate wine bar with a regularly changing menu of small plates, making it a versatile spot popular with locals throughout the day.
Bartley’s Flowers has built a strong reputation for its wide range of floral arrangements, catering for occasions from birthdays and anniversaries to weddings and funerals.
Alongside its bouquets, the business also offers gifts including chocolates, champagne and glassware, as well as corporate floral displays for events and businesses.
Meanwhile, 2210 by NattyCanCook brings a personal and cultural story to the area’s food scene.
Founded by chef Nathaniel Mortley, who grew up in Peckham, the Pan-Caribbean restaurant blends Guyanese, Bajan and German influences.
The name “2210” honours his late grandmother, who inspired his passion for cooking, and the restaurant has already gained recognition, including being named “One to Watch” by Condé Nast Traveller in 2025.
The trio of nominations reinforces Herne Hill’s growing reputation as a hub for independent businesses, with a thriving high street and strong sense of community helping it stand out across the capital.
It follows the area’s recent recognition as one of the best places to live in 2026 by Muddy Stilettos, which praised Herne Hill for its leafy streets, village feel and vibrant mix of cafés, shops and green space.
Located in Zone 2, the neighbourhood blends a relaxed, community-led atmosphere with easy access to central London, sitting just minutes from Brixton and Dulwich.
Its proximity to Brockwell Park - home to the much-loved Brockwell Lido - adds to its appeal, offering residents a rare balance of urban living and open green space.
Across south east London, other areas have also been recognised in this year’s awards.
In Lewisham, the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill has been shortlisted for both Best Arts, Culture & Theatre and Best Family Experience, while Wilson’s in Lewisham is in the running for Best Casual Dining.
Elsewhere, Ladywell Tavern has been nominated for Best Loved Pub, and Catford and Honor Oak both feature in the Best Farm Shop/Deli category.
Greenwich also saw multiple nominations, including the Royal Observatory for Best Family Experience and The Queen’s House for Best Wedding & Party Venue, while Brixton secured several nods, including for Brixton Brewery and Finch Wine Bar.
With voting now open, residents are being encouraged to back their favourite local businesses as Herne Hill looks to turn its shortlist success into wins.
