Which south east London borough had the most crime in March?

South-east London, which includes Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham and Southwark, saw a sharp rise in reported crime at the end of March when compared to February.

A total of 74,781 offences were logged in March, up 8.8 per cent compared to the 10,512 logged in February, ending the downward trend of the year so far

Southwark recorded the highest number of offences, with 3,273 crimes reported during the month.

Theft was the most common offence in the borough with 1,321 incidents, followed by violence against the person with 737 reports.

There were also 194 vehicle offences, 179 burglaries, 178 arson and criminal damage offences, 176 robberies, 173 public order offences, and 162 drug offences.

Together, theft and violence against the person accounted for more than half of all offences recorded in the borough.

Lewisham had the second-highest crime total, with 2,470 offences in March.

Violence against the person and theft were again the most frequently recorded crimes, with 800 and 664 reports respectively.

This was followed by 201 vehicle offences and 181 public order offences.

Overall, the figures show a similar pattern to Southwark, with violent and theft crimes making up the majority of offences recorded.

Greenwich ranked third, with 2,267 offences reported during the month, up 4.5 per cent compared to February.

The borough recorded 1,422 incidents of violence against the person and 1,104 theft offences, alongside 395 vehicle crimes.

There were also 329 public order offences, and 305 arson and criminal damage offences, as well as 272 drug offences.

Bromley was next in the rankings, with 2,009 offences reported in March.

Despite being London’s largest borough by area, it recorded considerably fewer offences than its inner London neighbours.

This included 1,142 cases of violence against the person, 905 thefts and 533 vehicle offences.

Police also recorded 305 arson and criminal damage offences, 195 burglaries and 284 public order offences.

Bexley recorded the lowest number of reported offences in south east London, with 1,356 crimes.

Police dealt with 884 reports of violence against the person, 443 thefts, 278 vehicle offences, and 218 arson and criminal damage offences.

Overall, crime levels in Bexley remained significantly lower than the sub-regional average.
