A teenager has been convicted of murdering a 21-year-old man in Deptford in a dispute over a stolen bike.
Jackson Uwagboe, 19, from Hamilton Street in Lewisham, was found guilty on Tuesday (February 10) of murdering Robert Robinson on Carteret Way.
He was also convicted of robbery and possession of a bladed article.
Police were called at about 10.35pm on June 6, 2024, to Carteret Way, but despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
He had suffered 12 serious stab wounds, including defensive injuries.
Earlier that day, Uwagboe had robbed a 17-year-old of his bicycle and phone on Deptford High Street.
Mr Robinson was part of a group that went to the home of Uwagboe's associate, Ryan Wedderburn in Windlass Place, Lewisham, hoping to recover the stolen bike.
When the group received no answer at the flat, they left.
Some members of the group then allegedly damaged two cars belonging to the Wedderburn family.
Shortly afterwards, Uwagboe left the flat with Wedderburn and Kirk Harris.
All three were carrying machetes.
They walked to nearby Carteret Way, where Mr Robinson, one of his friends, and their mother spotted the group and tried to flee.
The mother was on the phone to 999 at the time, reporting the earlier robbery.
Mr Robinson was chased, overpowered, and fatally stabbed.
Ryan Wedderburn, 18, and Kirk Harris, 19, were convicted of Mr Robinson’s murder at the Old Bailey last year and are serving life sentences.
Eromosele Omoluogbe, 24, from Tanners Hill in Lewisham, was convicted of perverting the course of justice.
He had booked Uwagboe a flight to Nigeria and driven him to Heathrow Airport in an attempt to help him evade arrest.
Detective Inspector Neil Tovey said: "Today’s verdict brings justice for Robert Robinson and his family.
"Robert was subjected to a brutal and sustained attack by a group of men armed with knives.
"He was unarmed, already wounded, and on the ground when Uwagboe attacked him.
"His claims of self-defence were entirely without foundation."
Det Insp Tovey added: "I again want to pay tribute to the Robinson family, who have shown immense dignity throughout this process.
"Through two trials they were forced to endure hearing those responsible attempt to excuse the inexcusable, and Uwagboe’s decision to flee the country significantly prolonged their search for justice.
"The conviction of Omoluogbe for perverting the course of justice reflects the seriousness of assisting a murderer to evade arrest.
"This outcome is the result of the relentless work of my officers and analyst, who reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, phone data, and spoke to dozens of witnesses to build a compelling case.
"This investigation demonstrates our absolute determination to pursue offenders wherever they go and to hold them accountable for their actions."
Police used extensive CCTV, phone records, bank account details and DNA to build the case.
DNA analysis also played a critical role in linking suspects to the crime.
A knife found after the murder was linked to Harris through DNA evidence, while another weapon recovered from the Thames was connected to Wedderburn through CCTV.
Uwagboe was arrested at Gatwick Airport on February 25, 2025, after returning to the UK.
He and Omoluogbe will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on a date to be confirmed.
