Bexley has been named as one of the most popular places for people to move to in the UK, according to new research.
The study, carried out by self-storage software provider Stora using official government migration statistics, ranked Bexley as the ninth most popular location for movers in the UK.
Coming in after Newport, the borough recorded a three per cent increase in net migration, with hundreds more people moving into the area rather than leaving.
Figures suggest that 18,000 people settled in Bexley over the last year, as movers relocate to the area for its proximity to London and convenient travel links, while offering more affordable prices compared to living more centrally.
The research highlights how rising living costs are shaping moving decisions, with many households choosing areas outside inner London in search of better value.
Stora’s analysis puts Bexley’s net migration figure at 572, placing it firmly within the UK’s top ten destinations for movers.
The report found that areas offering strong transport links and suburban lifestyles continue to perform well nationally, with house prices averaging at £413,751 according to Stora’s research.
However, RightMove cited average prices at a higher £566,512.
Bexley combines suburban neighbourhoods with large areas of green space, including Danson Park, Lesnes Abbey Woods, and Bostall Heath and Woods, which provide leisure and outdoor opportunities year-round.
It is also home to cultural landmarks such as the National Trust-owned Red House, once the home of William Morris, and Hall Place, a historic mansion and gardens hosting exhibitions and events.
Transport links are another key draw to the area, with Abbey Wood’s Elizabeth Line station offering fast connections into central London, while Superloop bus routes link other parts of the borough to major transport connections.
