Police have been given extra powers to stop and search people in Thamesmead due to “rising tension” between schools.
The Metropolitan Police received reports that the conflict between certain schools around the Thamesmead and South Thamesmead areas could potentially lead into anti-social behaviour.
Officers have been authorised today (March 5) to stop and search anyone in these areas without reasonable suspicion.
It also requires people to remove face coverings used to disguise appearance.
Section 60 & 60AA have been authorised by Insp Sherlock from 1400-2359hrs today for the below area after intel received regarding tension between local schools

A section 35 dispersal order has also been authorised, giving police the ability to exclude people from the patrolled spots.
The Met Police said: “This is to prevent and deter any anti-social behaviour and is in place from 2pm on March 5 until 11.59pm on March 5."
