I tried a new cosy and festive afternoon tea that’s set in the former Great Scotland Yard Headquarters – and you can even book it on Christmas Day.
If you’re looking for a festive afternoon tea to welcome in the Christmas period, Great Scotland Yard has launched its new festive afternoon tea in collaboration with Valrhona Chocolate.
Running until January 6, this afternoon tea features festive-themed treats and classic Christmas flavours, and is just a short walk from many of London’s most popular Christmas photo spots like Trafalgar Square, The Strand and Somerset House.
Served at the Great Scotland Yard Hotel’s Parlour, this is so cosy with a traditional Christmas tree and fire after a chilly walk.
We first began with a glass of bubbles, which you can have for a £10 upgrade if you fancy a glass of something, before selecting our teas.
The savouries are a mix of Christmas flavours that really have that traditional feel.
First beginning with wild mushroom quiche and a turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich, we then moved onto a salmon and caviar sandwich, followed by a truffle, egg and mayo sandwich finished with chives.
My personal favourite out of all the festive savouries was the chestnut and Montgomery cheddar Christmas pudding, which was delicious and the savouries had the right mix of all the classic festive flavours.
Moving onto scones, where you get to try a traditional plain scone, along with a festive spiced ginger scone served with clotted cream and blackberry jam.
But the star of the show was definitely the sweet treats, which included the hotel’s signature Buche de Noël cake, before finishing with a spiced Jivara chocolate and bergamot teacake fashioned into a Christmas tree, and a decadent Black Forest reindeer Kalingo chocolate and Amarena mousse.
All I can say is that this afternoon tea definitely got me in the festive spirit and it made for a relaxing retreat after being in the hustle and bustle of London during the festive season.
Festive Afternoon Tea at Great Scotland Yard will run daily from 12:45pm to 4pm until January 6 and is priced at £65 per person.
