Over the weekend, a beloved theatre in Dartford hosted doggy auditions for an upcoming production of Legally Blonde: The Musical, presented by DAODS.
The audition event took place on Saturday, August 31, from 10am to 2pm, at the Orchard West Theatre.
The search was on for two dogs to fill the roles of Bruiser, Elle Woods' small sidekick, and Rufus, the large dog belonging to Elle’s new friend, Paulette.
Bruiser needed to be a small or toy breed, such as a Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, or Pomeranian, while Rufus required a larger breed like a Labrador or Bulldog.
This award-winning musical, inspired by the beloved film Legally Blonde, will be staged at Orchard West Theatre from Wednesday, October 9, to Saturday, October 20.
The story follows Elle Woods, whose life takes an unexpected turn when her boyfriend, Warner, breaks up with her to attend Harvard Law School.
Determined to win him back, Elle cleverly gains admission to the prestigious law school. Once there, she faces challenges from her peers, professors, and even her ex, but with the support of new friends—and her loyal dog—Elle discovers her true potential and sets out to prove herself.
With music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin, this production promises to be action-packed, featuring memorable songs and energetic dance numbers.
In response to concerns about RAAC concrete in The Orchard Theatre's roof, which led to its closure in September 2023, Dartford Borough Council (DBC) and Trafalgar Theatres collaborated to create a temporary venue in Dartford, named Orchard West.
This fully operational space accommodates 1,000 people and includes comfortable seating, heating and cooling systems, comprehensive accessibility features, and full backstage and front-of-house facilities, including indoor toilets and bars.
