The southbound Blackwall Tunnel will be closed from 12.01am tomorrow (Saturday) until 5am on Monday (September 9), impacting motorists across London.
During this period, the northbound tunnel remains open, but diversions may be implemented on the approach routes.
Although scheduled maintenance of the tunnel will continue, running from 11.59 on Saturdays to 7am on Sundays, there could be future closures where necessary.
Transport for London (TfL) plans to keep the public updated on the issue.
Motorists are advised to anticipate heavy delays over the weekend, notably on the A13 westbound between Canning Town and Whitechapel, as well as the approaches to the Rotherhithe Tunnel.
Here’s what you need to know
During weekend closures, TfL expect roads and alternative river crossings in east and central London to be extremely busy with long delays to your journey.
Queues along the A13 westbound between Canning Town and Whitechapel and on the approaches to Rotherhithe Tunnel throughout the weekend are expected.
HGVS and large vehicles
HGVs and other large vehicles are advised to use routes away from central London.
There are size and weight restrictions on some London river crossings.
Congestion charging will run as normal during the closures.
Woolwich Ferry
The Woolwich Ferry will operate as normal during these closures.
During weekend closures, ferry users may not be able to board the first ferry as long queues are expected.
Buses
Bus 108 will operate a split service from 10pm on Friday until 11.59pm on Sunday.
The service will operate:
Stratford international - Canning Town
North Greenwich - Lewisham
To cross the river, use Tube and rail services.
Auto refunds will be in place for Bus 108 customers who use the Jubilee line between North Greenwich and Canning Town.
From midnight Sunday:
Northbound buses will return to their normal line of route
Southbound buses will be diverted via Tower Bridge
From 5am Monday:
Normal services will resume
