A major police presence was seen attending an incident outside a row of shops in Woolwich.
Multiple police cordons were put in place in Powis Street at around 7pm yesterday (August 28).
Pictures from the scene show a police car and two vans with officers guarding the cordon outside NatWest bank.
An eyewitness told the News Shopper that shops were evacuated due to a possible gas leak.
They said: "We were eating in Nando's and were suddenly told to leave as police turned up.
"We're not sure what happened but was told that it was a gas leak."
However, this is yet to be confirmed.
We have contacted Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade for further information.
