Jas Singh insists Tamworth will fear no one after on their return to the National League.

Singh was named Reusch Goalkeeper of the Year at the Non-League Paper’s National Game Awards in association with Isuzu, with his shot-stopping a crucial part of the Lambs' stunning promotion.

Andy Peaks' side boasted the league’s tightest defence, with Singh enjoying a period of 910 minutes without conceding a goal, the longest period of time in Non-League football this campaign as Tamworth conceded just 29 goals en route to the National League North title.

The National Game Awards highlight the best of the non-League season and are held annually by The Non-League Paper, the UK’s number one-selling football title and the best place for non-league news.

And with Tamworth set to compete in the National League next season after a superlative league campaign that saw the Lambs finish on 98 points, Singh is embracing the challenges ahead.

"Every team in the National League are going to need a strong defence next season, but us more than most," he said.

"But we’ve got nothing to be frightened of. We go into a new league full of confidence and with lots of momentum and we’ll just enjoy it.

"We’ll show teams respect, but I hope they show us respect too because we are there on merit. “No-one gave us a chance, but we turned up and proved people wrong.

"We’ve got a real togetherness in the group and the gaffer’s managed to re-sign most of the team for next season too.

"It’s been a proper team effort and although I’m getting the plaudits, everyone in Tamworth understands that we’ve all been in it together."

Tamworth’s march to the title owed much to the defensive foundations at the club and despite his heroics in goal, Singh was quick to pay tribute to his teammates for their part in what has been a historic campaign.

He added: “I’m very honoured and very privileged to have won the award after what’s been a special season.

"Goalkeepers don’t always get the praise, especially when a team has been so successful and I think that makes it all the more special, the fact that we haven’t had a 20-25 goal striker this season. It’s been a real collective effort and everyone has played their part.

“We added Jordan Cullinane-Liburd this year and he’s been immense, and we’ve had players come in to help keep us steady. Our right-back is a seven out of ten every week which goes unnoticed sometimes, but not within the group. Having that understanding in defence has been a huge part of our success.”
