Police are appealing for help in finding five people after a number of suspected crimes at an Eritrean demonstration which police say, “became violent”.

On December 30, 2023, more than 100 people, some armed with sticks and missiles, attacked the Lighthouse Theatre in Camberwell Road.

Police officers at the demonstration, who were there to protect the public, were attacked.

Four officers were injured, with some getting concussions and needing hospital treatment after being hit by missiles.

If you recognise any of these people, call police on 020 8246 9386.

Detective Superintendent Sian Thomas, who is leading the investigation, said: “The level of violence used against officers, who were there to keep the public safe and protect people in a theatre, is some of the worst I have seen.

“We have so far arrested 44 people for a number of offences relating to this demonstration and continue to make progress, however, there are still outstanding a number of suspects that we need the public’s help to identify.”

“If you recognise any of the people we are looking to identify please email us or call 020 8246 9386 to talk with a detective. Please also quote the image reference number of the person you are identifying.

“Alternatively you can report to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote Operation Wickies.”
