A vintage steam train with on-board dining and Pullman carriages will be heading to south London at the end of this month.

Hosted by Steam Dreams, this nostalgic steam train experience takes a 140-mile route to the historic city of Norwich on Tuesday (May 27).

The route will begin from the Grade II listed Windsor and Eton Riverside calling at the south London stations of Kew Bridge and Clapham Junction along with Ipswich, Diss and finally Norwich.

Spectators looking for a chance to see the locomotive in action can also visit Kew Bridge at 8:45am or 9:15pm, or Clapham Junction at 9am or 9pm, for a chance to see the steam train on its route as it stops at the stations.

The train's carriages will be pulled by the Britannia 70000, a 7-engine locomotive first built in 1951 and the first of 55 ever built, capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 miles an hour.

It also has links to royalty, with one of its most famous roles when the Britannia hauled The Royal Train from Preston to Wakefield in 2012.

The trip takes passengers on a trip of the Berkshire countryside calling at Ipswitch, Diss and finally Norwich.

Norwich is Norfolk’s cathedral city featuring a castle dating back to 1112, along with its opulent cathedral, cobbled streets and Norwich Market, known for its array of street food and independent vendors.

Visitors can book on a number of experiences including Premium Standard for £165, First Class Non-Standard for £195 or Pullman Dining for £395, where guests can enjoy a three course breakfast followed by pastries and a five course dinner menu in the evening.
