A nursery in Sydenham has been praised for helping children develop into "highly confident learners" following a visit from Ofsted inspectors.

BeBright Bunnies on Station Approach, was given a 'good' rating across all areas by the watchdog after an inspection on March 5.

The nursery, which caters to children aged 0 to 4, and currently looks after 54 children, has been hailed as a place where children are "happy" and parents feel "listened to".

The report published on April 12 said: "Children are happy and settled at the nursery.

"Children are highly confident learners. They readily talk with staff about their learning and ask for support when needed."

Inspectors found children were supported in learning numbers, and the development of younger children was supplemented with music and movement.

The report added: "Children recall what they have learned.

"For example, during a mathematics activity, children remember the number of the week and count how many pom-poms they need to reach that number."

The Ofsted inspectors also commended the nursery's approach to safeguarding.

They described "an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first".

Inspectors also highlighted the arrangements for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, calling it a "key strength" of the setting.

The Ofsted report included praise for the leadership of the nursery, with inspectors finding that the leaders worked hard to enhance the quality of teaching and safety within the nursery.

Inspectors said: "Regular staff supervision sessions highlight their training needs.

"Recent training has helped staff to support children with more challenging behaviour."

Areas for improvement pointed out in the report included the promotion of children's independence skills during focused activities.

Inspectors found that "staff do not consistently promote children's independence skills" as they "step in too quickly" to help with tasks, such as using glue sticks.

Parent feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with inspectors noting that parents feel "comfortable with leaving their children at the nursery" and "listened to" by leaders when sharing feedback.

The report concluded with the suggestion that the nursery should "support staff to be more consistent and help children to develop more independence, particularly during focus activities".
