I went to The Kensington for an evening of delicious food and amazing cocktails

We headed to the Town House restaurant inside the hotel, and I was immediately struck by how stunning the interior was.

The lighting was soft and romantic, with lots of flowers dotted around making the spot feel welcoming and cosy.

Staff and the restaurant were so friendly and chatty, making the experience feel more personal and fun.

The menu at this restaurant is divine, I struggled to choose my dishes.

But, to start I could not resist the burrata with heritage tomatoes, pesto and focaccia crustini.

Those who know me, know that I adore tomatoes and these were simply incredible.

While it sounds like a simple starter, they were filled with flavour and sweetness that cut through the richness of the burrata.

My boyfriend opted for the beef carpaccio with rocket and parmesan salad, balsamic glaze which looked equally as delicious.

For my main course, again while there were so many I was tempted by, I ultimately went for the homemade linguine with Datterini tomatoes and prawns.

Again, the tomatoes were fresh and tasty and the prawns were cooked to perfection.

There was a slight heat which added depth without overpowering the flavour.

The fillet of black cod, which my boyfriend ordered, looked just as good though.

It came with a miso glaze, pak choy and sticky jasmine rice and he was wowed by how scrumptious it was.

Of course, we could not forget dessert.

I can never resist a chocolate fondant, and this one came with honeycomb and ice cream and I have to say, it was faultless.

The vanilla crème brulee was also a hit, coming with roasted cinnamon apple which put a unique twist on a classic dessert, and it was amazing.

After dinner, we headed into the next room to the hotel bar – The K Bar – to try out the new cocktail menu.

The menu is entitled ‘Reflections’ and what makes this even cooler is that the menu is actually reflected into a mirror for customers to read.

All of the cocktails are individual and experimental – I have honestly never seen anything like it before.

When we sat down, we were given some olives, nuts and water as we perused the menu.

Because the cocktails are so different, I wasn’t too sure which one to order.

So, when bar manager Jonathan, who helped to craft the menu, came over to take our order I told him that my usual favourite cocktails are things like a cosmopolitan, a pornstar martini or an English garden.

From that, he recommended that I try the Stravaganza cocktail which is made up of aval dor Cornish vodka, Pimm’s, Earl Grey cordial and Perrier Jouet Grand Brut.

It’s amazing to me that from telling him a couple of drinks that I enjoy, that Jonathan could so perfectly capture what I would want from a cocktail.

It was fresh, bubbly and sweet without being sickly – a truly classy beverage that I would encourage anyone making a trip to The K Bar to taste.

To my boyfriend, Jonathan recommended the Me, Myself and I cocktail which is made up of eagle rare 10-year-old bourbon, basil, truffle and absinthe.

While this may sound a bit of a strange combination, he absolutely loved it – don’t knock it until you try it.

After these went down such a treat, we trusted Jonathan to suggest something different for our next round.

I was brought the Pluvio cocktail which contains Hendrick’s flora adora gin and petrichor cordial.

For anyone who doesn’t know, petrichor is the word that describes the smell of rain which feels like more of a concept than something tangible you can put in a drink but, wow, The K Bar really accomplished this.

It was such a fascinating experience to get to sip something that really reminded me of that smell when rain first hits the ground in the morning.

For my boyfriend’s second drink, he was brought the Shibuya – The busker single malt whiskey, sesame, mancino Sakura vermouth and aromatic bitters.

He absolutely loved this drink, it was a really tasty and unique twist on a whiskey cocktail.

The interior of the bar is soft and warm just like in the restaurant and the huge, glass chandeliers give the place a feeling of glamour and decadence.

I could not get over how friendly and helpful the staff were in both the bar and the restaurant – it took what would already have been an incredible evening and amplified it even more.

The cocktails at The K Bar are honestly, the best I have ever had.

They were fun, unique and quirky but still luxurious and high-quality – the reflections idea is mysterious and elegant without being at all gimmicky.

I would 100% recommend this bar and restaurant to anyone looking for a special evening and to try something new.

There are so many amazing cocktail bars in London, but I truly think this one is a gem.
