If you’re looking for a cosy, dog-friendly place to enjoy delicious pizzas and authentic Italian cocktails, this restaurant needs to be on your visit list.
I was recently invited with a friend to try Bianco43, an independent Italian restaurant located on Church Street, just a stone's throw away from the Cutty Sark DLR and Greenwich Market.
As a local, it was always one of those restaurants I’d walk past and promise to go in, but it always looked very busy and so up until now I hadn’t paid it a visit.
This restaurant is like a Tardis - from the front you’d imagine it to be small, but it's deceptive, as the restaurant spans over three floors with two of them offering dining spaces.
It’s run by trio Stefano, Paolo and Christian; the first two took over the business after working there for 13 years and were later joined by Christian.
The restaurant serves classic Italian dishes along with a drinks menu featuring classic Italian cocktails like Negroni and an Aperol Spritz.
It was also named winner of Nextdoor’s Neighbourhood Faves Award 2023.
The food is made with produce sourced locally and in the UK, along with authentic Italian flour to make the pasta and pizza.
It’s also dog-friendly if you fancy bringing your four-legged friend with you, although they will probably drool over the tempting wafts of cheese as you feast upon your food.
We started with some drinks, we both went for a classic Bellini and as far as cocktails go it was a good one, they came promptly and were sweet and bubbly.
Let’s just say, I may have ordered more than one that night.
For starters I went for the Bruschetta and my friend went for the Calamari & Zucchini recommended by our server Ryan.
Both were very good, the bread had a nice crunch and the tomatoes had a fair amount of seasoning, while the calamari was crispy and had a delicious tartare sauce for dipping.
For mains, we both went for Burrata & Nduja pizza, consisting of a pizza base of tomato sauce topped with yellow tomatoes, nduja and burrata, which was also incidentally one of the restaurant's most popular and after eating it I can understand why.
The portion sizes were very generous and we were presented with two huge stone-baked pizzas.
The pizzas were delicious, sweet from the yellow tomatoes and spicy from the nduja, a spreadable spiced pork with a soft cheese on top.
I’m normally very conventional when it comes to pizzas, but this was definitely one of the most delicious pizzas I’ve eaten, and I was very grateful for the option to take what I couldn’t finish home with me to eat later.
Finally, for dessert my friend finished with an espresso whilst I went for the Homemade Cake, which was described to me as “an Italian version of a chocolate lava cake.”
The cake was delicious, a rich dark chocolate sponge topped with powdered icing sugar and with a side of vanilla ice cream.
As far as desserts go this would definitely be one I’d order again.
All in all, I think this place is a true gem for anyone who seriously loves authentic Italian food and wants a relaxed place to enjoy some food.
