A new Indian takeaway in Lewisham that opened its doors five months ago has “unexpectedly” been named a winner at the Deliveroo Awards 2024.

Quaggy’s Kitchen in Lee High Road was named a winner in the Above and Beyond Awards 2024 for the Rider Love Award.

This year, Deliveroo received 66,000 votes cast across the 60 awards that were up for grabs across the UK and Ireland, celebrating the best of independent restaurants.

Quaggy’s Kitchen opened its doors in September 2023 and is named after the local Quaggy River running through Lewisham.

The business serves takeaway authentic Indian cuisine with a variety of vegetarian options.

Some of their most popular dishes with customers include Chicken Korma, Tikka Masala, Mix Grill, Onion Bhajis and Chef's specials.

Currently the restaurant operates as a delivery-based service, and chef Juel Miah added that the business would continue as a takeaway to learn before moving to “next phases.”

Juel said: “We’re here to support busy Londoners where after a hard day they can kick back and put their feet up and know we can cook up a hearty meal to dine in with.”

Recently the business launched a four-course meal offer, running between Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a starter, main, side, rice or bread for £19.95.

Speaking on the success after just five months trading, Juel said that their success was unexpected and expressed his gratitude for winning at this year's Deliveroo awards.

Quaggy Kitchen chef Juel Miah said: “As a newcomer we really didn't expect to get past the locals let alone win.

“However it goes to show that if at the heart of things you show love and help others than its truly recognised and were grateful for this recognition and so a big thank you to everyone for this award on behalf of Quaggy's Kitchen.”

Deliveroo founder and CEO Will Shu said: “I say it every year, but the standard of finalists and winners for this year’s Restaurant Awards has been incredible.

“I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a number of restaurant owners to hear about their stories, food, and the positive impact they’ve had on their local communities and we are proud to partner with such an incredible array of dedicated restaurants to deliver food from around the world to doorsteps across the UK and Ireland.

“A huge well done to all of this year’s winners.”
