A kebab shop in Welling has been given the second lowest possible food hygiene rating after "dirty oil" was found leaking on the premises.

Best Kebab Ye, in 139 Bellegrove Road received an overall hygiene rating of 1 from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), indicating major improvement is necessary.

Inspectors gave the rating following a visit on January 11, 2024.

The report highlighted areas where major improvement was needed, including a damaged air ventilation system which meant that "dirty oil" was "leaking from the units".

Dirty oil was also "leaking from the canopy inside the premises", according to the inspector.

The report went on to say that the kebab restaurant "did not have written food safety procedures".

On a revisit on January 15, the inspector found that staff could not locate their copy of the food management system, while the manager told the FSA over the phone that "the diary sheets and training certificates were the only document they have".

For both the lack of a written food safety management system and the damaged air ventilation, Best Kebab Ye was served legal notices to require them to fix the problems.

The inspectors also discovered on their visit that food handlers were "not able to provide accurate information".

The report said: "One of the spices you are adding contains Mustard, but food handlers were not aware of this information.

"Ensure that food handlers are aware of the allergens in the ingredients you are adding to your preparations."
