A teenager has been arrested after officers seized a knife following a police chase in south east London.

The 16-year-old was arrested on Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, after allegedly refusing to stop for police on Saturday, February 10.

Officers allege that the teen had crashed the moped during the chase at around 3.40pm and that he had a large knife.

Prior to being taken into custody, he was treated in the hospital for his head injury where his condition was assessed as non-life threatening.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, taking and driving away a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, and failing to comply with police orders to stop.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: "Shortly after 3.40pm on Saturday, February 10 a male was arrested in Lordship Lane following a police pursuit.

“The 16-year-old youth, who crashed a moped he was travelling on, was detained with a large knife.

"Before being taken to custody, he was taken to hospital to be treated for a head injury.

“His condition has been assessed as non life-threatening.

“He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, taking and driving away a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner and failing to stop for police.”
