London Ambulance Service has issued a statement after the body of a male was found in water in Greenwich.

The discovery was made by police in the River Thames, Victoria Parade just after 7.20am today (February 8).

An ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, a clinical team manager, and members of the hazardous area response team from London Ambulance Service also attended.

Police enquiries are now ongoing to confirm the male’s identity and inform his next of kin.

The death is being treated as unexpected.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 7.19am on Thursday 8 February to reports of a person in the water at Victoria Parade, SE10.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, a clinical team manager and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

“Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The full statement from Metropolitan Police says: “Police were called at 7.22am on Thursday, 8 February.

“The body of a male was recovered from the water in Victoria Parade SE10.

“Officers are working to confirm the male's identity and inform next of kin.

“The death is being treated as unexpected pending further enquiries.”
