I’ve found a great, affordable idea for anyone who loves Hawaiian food and value for money in the heart of busy Covent Garden.

El Takoy, located in Henrietta Street in Covent Garden, is a small and cosy Hawaiian restaurant serving Hawaiian street food, along with a bar serving a mix of classic cocktails and drinks.

Alongside the A La Carte Menu, the restaurant also offers a Tacos and Margaritas special, where guests can pay £35 to have bottomless tacos and margaritas for one hour, on Sundays to Thursdays from 4pm until 5pm and 5:30pm until 6:30pm.

I was invited to try it out with a friend, and more than anything else I was curious to see how many cocktails and tacos I could devour within the space of 60 minutes.

The restaurant is located downstairs at number 3 Henrietta Street and features Hawaiian-inspired decorations with hanging tropical plants and Hawaiian art on the walls.

We were served by our very friendly server David, who explained the food options and served us with our cocktails within minutes of sitting down, clearly understanding the assignment.

For tacos, we began with a selection of four different ones to try, which included a Kalua Pork option with pineapple and cream, a Chicken Annatto taco with chipotle agave, Lamb Barbacoa with pineapple chutney, cilantro and lime cream, and the El Vegetariano served with roasted mushroom, vegan kimchi and sweet fillipino.

I’ll say that all of the tacos were very tasty and had so much flavour, but my personal favourites were the El Vegetariano and the Chicken options.

The El Vegetariano had so much seasoning and the texture of the mushrooms was almost like a shredded meaty texture; I ended up asking for more.

The Chicken Annatto was sweet and spicy and had a great crunch with the salad inside, and it was another one that I ordered more of.

This is definitely great value in terms of how much food you can ask for, we were constantly offered more tacos and given refills of our margaritas.

In total, after the hour was up, I left having eaten 6 tacos and drunk a fair few margaritas.

All in all, if you’re on a budget and are looking for a good value night out, El Takoy is definitely well worth a visit.
