A Blackheath pub set in a former 16th century coaching inn is set to reopen later this month following a £750,000 refurb.

The Crown is located in Blackheath Village, within walking distance of famous landmarks like Greenwich Park and the Rangers House, with links to London by train from Blackheath.

The 16th century coaching inn has received a £750,000 investment from Shepherd Neame to transform the pub.

The pub closed for refurbishment at the start of 2024 and is set to reopen on February 23 to local punters.

Shepherd Neame told News Shopper that it planned to “enhance the unique features” of the historic pub whilst introducing a stylish new look.

The pub will feature a new décor to celebrate the pub’s heritage, with a retro 50s and 60s-inspired design throughout, along with a nod to Shepherd Neame’s brewing history with vintage pump clips and beer mats.

The pub will also feature a piano in the side bar area, which will be used for weekly singalongs and customer performances will be “encouraged.”

For drinks, Shepherd Neame confirmed that the pub would continue to serve a mix of real ales, craft ales, lager, ciders, premium wines, and spirits.

For food, the new retro-themed menu will feature homemade traditional bar snacks and pub classics with a contemporary twist and locally sourced produce.

The pub is set to reopen to visitors from the evening of February 23.
