A woman has been taken to hospital after a fire at a block of flats in Penge during the early hours of this morning (Monday).

Around 70 firefighters battled the blaze at Orchard Grove, which was first called in at 2.22am on January 29.

The third-floor flat and part of the roof of a three-storey block were damaged in the fire.

Sixteen other people left the building before firefighters arrived and a further three people evacuated following advice from the Brigade's 999 Control Officers.

One woman has been taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering from smoke inhalation.

Crews from Beckenham, West Norwood, Woodside, Forest Hill and surrounding fire stations were deployed to the scene.

One of the Brigade's 32 metre turntable ladders was used to provide a better view of the fire of the incident.

The Brigade's drone team also provided an aerial perspective of the incident.

The blaze was brought under control at around 4.07am.

Whilst the fire has been contained, firefighters intend to remain on-site to fully extinguish the flames and dampen the area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
