A popular Turkish restaurant in Welling is in the final running to win a national kebab award.

Gulen’s in Welling was named a finalist for this year's British Kebab Awards in the category for Customer Satisfaction and is up against nine other restaurants across the UK.

The British Kebab Awards, in association with Just Eat, celebrates the best of local kebab takeaways and restaurants in the UK.

There are 20 award categories ranging from Best Greek Restaurant and Chef of the Year to Best Takeaway and Best Restaurant.

This year marks the 12th awards ceremony, with 17 finalists named in south London across 10 categories, with eight of those finalists in south east London.

The restaurant serves traditional Turkish cuisine, where dishes are made with an emphasis on “aromatic spices” and “bold flavours”, according to the business' website.

They offer an A La Carte menu of Turkish dishes, along with a dessert menu in partnership with CuteCakes and a drinks menu featuring a range of cocktails.

The cocktail menu features classics like the Mojito, Long Island Iced Tea and Cosmopolitan, along with specials like the Lost in Gulens, made with vodka, rum, gin, triple sec, malbec, passionfruit and orange juice.

Some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes include the Iskender, a lamb shawarma served with butter, homemade Anatolian sauce and fresh yogurt, as well as the Chicken Beytise, served with flatbread, hummus, yogurt and salad.

Gulen has already received much praise from diners and is ranked number four for restaurants in Welling on TripAdvisor with a 4.5 average star rating.

The restaurant has also garnered a 4.5 average star rating based on 346 reviews on Google, with reviewers rating the lamb, chicken and grill dishes.
