Three adults and two children have been taken to hospital after a house fire in Erith.

Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters tackled the blaze in Manor Road just after 4am today (January 23).

Half of the ground floor of a two-storey mid-terraced house was left damaged by the blaze. 

Two adults were rescued from the first floor by crews wearing smoke hoods and breathing apparatuses.

Another adult and two children were also rescued by a ladder from the first floor of the property.

They were all taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews after suffering from smoke inhalation.

The fire was under control just before 5.10am.

Fire crews from Erith, Bexley and Plumstead stations attended the scene.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. 

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters tackled a house fire on Manor Road in Erith overnight. Half of the ground floor of a two-storey mid-terraced house was damaged by fire.

“Two adults were rescued from the first floor of the house wearing smoke hoods by crews wearing breathing apparatus.

“One adult and two children were also rescued from the first floor via a ladder.

“They were all taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering from smoke inhalation.

“The Brigade was called at 0404 and the fire was extinguished by 0508.

“Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Erith, Bexley and Plumstead fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation."

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.10am today (23 January) to reports of a fire on Manor Road, Erith.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

“We treated five people at the scene before taking them to hospital.”
