The trial of a couple from Eltham accused of killing their baby daughter is set to begin.

Aristocrat Constance Marten, 36, and her partner Mark Gordon, 49, are charged with manslaughter by gross negligence.

The baby girl, Victoria, was found dead on an allotment in Brighton, East Sussex, last March.

The manslaughter is alleged to have taken place between January 4 and February 27.

The pair also face charges of perverting the course of justice, concealing the birth of a child, child cruelty and causing or allowing the death of a child.

The defendants, of no fixed address, previously lived in Eltham.

They have both denied the charges against them.

Last Wednesday (January 17), a panel of 15 potential jurors were selected at the Old Bailey.

They were sent away and told they would not be required to return to court until Wednesday (January 24).

Judge Mark Lucraft KC told them not to carry out any internet research about the case, which is expected to go on until March 8.
