Two tonnes of paper and part of machinery were destroyed in a fire at a paper shredding yard in Erith.

London Fire Brigade were called this morning (January 19) at around 9:27am, with crews from Erith, Plumstead and Wennington in attendance.

25 firefighters and four fire engines were despatched to the scene.

A small part of the paper bale compactor was destroyed by the blaze and two tonnes of paper moved outside and extinguished by fire crews.

The fire was under control by 10:30am today and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a paper shredding yard on an industrial estate in Erith this morning.

“A small part of a paper bale compactor was destroyed by fire.

“A further two tonnes of paper were moved outside to the road and were extinguished by crews.

“The Brigade was called at 0927 and the incident was under control by 1030.

“Fire crews from Erith, Wennington and Plumstead fire stations were at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
