Three police officers were taken to hospital and three people arrested following a car chase on New Year's Day in Blackheath.

Yesterday (January 1) at 9.50pm police on patrol in Prince Charles Road in Blackheath attempted to stop a Vauxhall Corsa car driving in the area.

The vehicle did not stop and police pursued the vehicle.

Shortly after, at around 10.15pm, the car crashed with a bus and the two police cars involved in the chase on Shooters Hill.

Three police officers were taken to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

The driver and two passengers in the Vauxhall Corsa were uninjured and were arrested at the scene.

Road closures were put in place while emergency services were at the scene.

Metropolitan Police have confirmed that enquiries into the incident continue.

The full statement from the Metropolitan Police said: "On Monday, 1 January at 9.50pm officers on patrol in Prince Charles Road, SE3, attempted to stop a Vauxhall Corsa.

"The vehicle did not stop and a police pursuit was authorised involving two police vehicles.

"At about 10.15pm the vehicle collided with a bus and both police vehicles in Shooters Hill, SE18.

"Three officers were taken to hospital where they received treatment. They have since been discharged.

"The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle were not injured. All three men were arrested at the scene and they remain in custody.

"There were road closures while emergency services dealt with the incident.

"Enquiries continue."
