A Blackheath wine bar with more than 100 wines to choose from also has a story to tell with its historical links to the suffragette movement.

Located at 72 Tranquil Vale, Le Bar A Vin is a haven for wine enthusiasts but also echoes the historical significance of its surroundings.

Blackheath, known for its activism during the late 19th century, played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement.

72 Tranquil Vale was a space where Emily Pankhurst held meetings for Votes for Women, and the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies had a shop.

Today, Le Bar A Vin stands as a wine bar which pays homage to this rich history while embracing the community of Blackheath.

The bar is owned by Claire Gannon-Ballard and offers a selection of over 100 different wines from around the world by the glass, carafe, or bottle.

Claire told the News Shopper: “Customers love the local buzz I think. We have real regular customers that come most weekends.

“The bar is cosy and intimate in the colder months and super chic in the summer with all the fully opened windows and outdoor seating.

“We add new wines to the menu every few months to keep things refreshed. We changed our cheese to suit each season.”

Juggling the responsibilities of being a wife and mother of three, she manages the wine bar with a small group of dedicated staff.

The menu boasts French cheeses and charcuterie boards, alongside classic dishes like beef bourguignon and duck confit.

The brick walls and rustic ambience create a cosy atmosphere, inviting visitors to unwind and savour their wine.

Le Bar A Vin is not just a place to enjoy exceptional wines; it's a hub for entertainment with live music most weekends.

It also hosts several wine tasting events throughout the year which often sell out quickly and their St Patrick's Day celebrations are also well loved.

After being recently granted a spirit license, Le Bar A Vin is set to introduce a new cocktail list, promising an expanded range of drink options.

Claire's personal involvement and the local buzz contribute to the establishment's genuine and warm atmosphere, creating a loyal community of regular customers.

Le Bar A Vin has become a staple in the Blackheath community, blending history, quality, and a personal touch to create a truly unique experience for all who walk through its doors.
