The former Debenhams unit in Bromley remains closed 18 months after the remaining 28 branches closed.

Located in Unit 262 in The Glades in Bromley, the Debenhams store spanned over two floors.

The Bromley store was among one of the last 28 stores across the UK to close on May 15, 2021.

Since then, the unit has remained shut and has not been reopened since its closure eighteen months ago.

Debenhams was initially founded in 1778, growing from one to 178 stores during its first 170 years in business.

In 2019, the brand began to experience financial difficulty, when it went into a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) in a bid to save the business, leading to the closure of 22 stores in January 2020.

In 2020 the business went into administration again, as the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions forced its remaining 142 shops to close.

Later in December 2020, Debenhams went into liquidation, with its remaining 28 stores closing by May 15, 2021, since when the brand has continued to trade online under new ownership.

Two other former Debenhams stores in south east London have since been taken over by other businesses.

Debenhams in Eltham, which closed in 2018, was later reopened as a TK Maxx, and the Orpington Debenhams, which closed in 2019, was taken over by Boots which opened in 2021.

A spokesperson for the Glades said that “various options” are being considered to fill the vacant unit, and discussions continue with potential partners.

They added that The Glades is “dedicated” to revitalising the shopping unit, and they encourage Glades shoppers to check the website for further updates and developments.
