Around 1,000 people were evacuated from an Elizabeth Line train after being trapped for hours due to a power failure.

Firefighters, TfL, Network Rail and British Transport Police all worked to get passengers safely off of the train after the power failure last night (Thursday, December 7) caused the train to halt between Paddington and Ladbroke Grove train stations.

London Fire Brigade has confirmed that around 1,000 passengers on the nine-carriage train were trapped, but then allowed to return to Paddington station on the tracks after they were confirmed to be clear.

The brigade was called at around 7.30pm and the incident was over at around 10.30pm.

Firefighters assisted Transport for London, Network Rail and British Transport Police with several incidents following a power failure between Paddington and Ladbroke Grove train stations.

Firefighters assisted partners at Ladbroke Grove Underground Station after an overheard line fell.

Around 1,000 passengers on a nine-carriage train were returned to Paddington Station after the track was confirmed to be clear. 

The power failure also impacted a train at Hanwell Railway Station.

Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters assisted with the evacuation of a passenger train carrying 165 passengers and another carrying 250 passengers.

There were no injuries reported.

London Fire Brigade was called at around 8pm and the incident was over just before 11pm.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters assisted Transport for London, Network Rail and British Transport Police with several incidents following a power failure between Paddington and Ladbroke Grove train stations.

“Firefighters assisted partners at Ladbroke Grove Underground Station after an overheard line fell.

“Around 1000 passengers on a nine-carriage train were returned to Paddington Station after the track was confirmed to be clear. 

“The Brigade was called at 1929 and the incident was over for firefighters at 2236.

“Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from North Kensington and Kensington fire stations attended the scene. 

“At Hanwell Railway Station, three fire engines and around 15 firefighters assisted with the evacuation of a passenger train carrying 165 passengers and another carrying 250 passengers.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade was called at 2002 and the incident was over for firefighters at 2247. Firefighters from Southall, Heston and Ealing Fire Stations attended the scene. 

“At Acklam Road in Notting Hill, two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from North Kensington and Paddington Fire Stations worked with partners to make the scene safe after approximately 1000 passengers on a nine-carriage train were evacuated from the tracks to safety.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade was called at 2117 and the incident was over for firefighters at 2211.”
