A fire at a mixed-used building in Deptford was caused by a tumble dryer.

A tumble dryer on the first floor was destroyed by the fire on Creek Road in the early hours of this morning (December 6).

Ten residents had vacated the premises prior to the brigade arriving, with no casualties reported.

Fire crews Deptford, Greenwich, New Cross and East Greenwich fire stations were called to the scene at around 1am.

The fire was brought under control by 1.57am, with four fire engines and around 25 firefighters being deployed to the scene.

The incident occurred accidentally and was caused by the tumble dryer.

In response to the blaze, the London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it.

"If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician."

"Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done.

"So always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.”

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters are reminding people of their white goods safety advice following a fire at a mixed-use building on Creek Road in Deptford.

“A tumble dryer on the first floor was destroyed by the fire. Ten people left before the arrival of the Brigade. There were no reports of any injuries.

“The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved a tumble dryer.

“The Brigade was called at 1am and the fire was under control by 1.57am. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Deptford, Greenwich, New Cross and East Greenwich fire stations attended the scene."
