Two South East London-based independent boutiques are celebrating after being named one of the best of its kind in the UK and Ireland.

In the coveted list created by The Observer, 20 independent boutiques were named, including online store Gather & See and St Albans-based The Dressing Room.

But there were only two from South East London that made the list and now rank among the best in the UK and Ireland.

Two South East London-based independent boutiques named best in the UK

D.A.Y is a family business run by sisters  Disha, Apee and Yukti that opened its doors in Peckham in 2018.

The trio grew up in a shop environment, following their parents four decade-long retail business.

D.A.Y offers curated one-of-a-kind items from Scandi-inspired clothing items and jewellery from creators G Binksy.

They also stock up-and-coming brands such as items from Frekkle London and Southeast15.

On their website D.A.Y shared: "D.A.Y was founded in July 2018, built from a love for independent retail, styling and under the radar brands."

Also on the list, is Lowie an independent womenswear label founded by Bronwyn Lowie and is set in Herne Hill.

The boutique ranked 19 on the top 20 list and was founded back in 2002 and is big on sustainability with Bronwyn upcycling clothes since she was just 12 years old.

In the shop, she offers free repairs on all her items for life and only stocks products from brands with similar ethics. 

As The Observer shares her stock includes items from Bobo Choses, Stella Nova, Miss Pompon and Upcircle.

On the Lowie website, the brand is described as  "Heritage inspired sustainable womenswear. Based in South London and founded in 2002. Thoughtfully designed with the planet in mind."
