A popular family-run restaurant in Orpington has won Best Indian Restaurant at the Asian Curry Awards 2023.

The Bombay was named the winner of the Best Indian Restaurant for the London Suburbs Category at this year's awards.

This award marks the businesses’ third award won this year, after winning Best Restaurant at the British Bengal Curry Awards 2023 and Best Restaurant at the Asian Curry Life Awards 2023.

The Bombay Restaurant is a family-run and owned business, which is currently co-run by Kobir Hussain and his two brothers Sah and MJ, and owned by their uncle for the last 40 years.

The business first opened its doors in 1984 serving authentic Indian dishes, with three unique dining spaces to accommodate parties, events and family-friendly dining.

The Asian Curry Awards brings together Britain’s best Asian restaurants, featuring contestants representing Asia's rich and diverse cuisine, including Indian, Thai, Chinese, Malaysian and Sri Lankan restaurants.

Restaurants are nominated for a range of awards in different categories, from fine dining and newcomer of the year awards, to types of cuisine such as vegan and Asian fusion.

A total of 16 Asian restaurants across south London were named as finalists in this year's awards, with 11 restaurants in south east London and five across the south of London.

The winners were announced at an awards ceremony in central London on November 19.

Alongside The Bombay, iNaga in West Wickham was named the winner of the Best Chef Awards and Babur in Forest Hill was named Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year.

MJ said: “Winning The London Suburbs Best Restaurant award at the 13th Asian Curry Awards 2023 is a huge achievement.

“This is our third award this year for the Best Indian Restaurant and we are blown away on winning all three awards for The Best Indian Restaurant.

“This is all down to our amazing customers who have supported us. I want to thank every customer from the bottom of my heart.

“You have been there for us from the very moment we opened our doors back in 1984.

“You are all incredible and we could not win this amazing award without your support and believing us that we are the Best Indian Restaurant.

“I also want to thank my whole team for their hard work and consistently maintaining exceptional food and service standards throughout the year.”
