A vehicle has crashed into a railway bridge in Beckenham this morning.

The incident happened near Eden Park earlier today (November 16).

Engineers went to the bridge to look for potential damage which caused trains to be delayed or amended on the Hayes Line.

Trains on the Hayes Line were consequently only able to run between Elmers End/Clock House and Charing Cross.

People were able to use London buses and Tramlink services at no extra cost.

Staff have since carried out checks on the bridge and services have been reopened again.

Southeastern has said that services may be delayed or amended at short notice while they continue to get trains back on time.

A spokesperson for Southeastern Railway said: “A vehicle has collided with a railway bridge near Eden Park, so services on the Hayes Line are being disrupted.

“Engineers are en route to the bridge in order to assess it for potential damage, so trains will be delayed or amended at short notice.

“Trains on the Hayes Line can only run between Elmers End/Clock House and Charing Cross because of a vehicle striking a railway bridge.

“You can use tickets on London Buses and Tramlink services at no extra cost to help complete your journey.

“Update: Staff have carried out safety checks on the bridge at #EdenPark and all lines have now been reopened again.

“Services can run again on the Hayes Line, however, may be delayed or amended at short notice while we work to get trains back on time again.”
