An officer has been convicted of ABH following a car chase in Greenwich, and will now face a misconduct hearing.
PC Antony Howlin, attached to Met Operations, was convicted of actual bodily harm (ABH) at City of London Magistrates' Court on October 31 and is due to be sentenced on November 28.
In February 2019, PC Howlin was involved in pursuing a car in Greenwich that failed to stop for officers when asked to.
When the driver of the car stopped, PC Howlin used force to detain him.
The suspect was later charged with aggravated vehicle taking and driving away, for which they were given a prison sentence.
PC Howlin will be sentenced on November 28 and currently remains on restricted duties.
Chief Superintendent Claire Smart, responsible for Met Taskforce, said: “Our officers know that any use of force must be proportionate and that their actions will be scrutinised.
“Now that the criminal proceedings have concluded, a misconduct hearing will take place.”
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “An officer will face a misconduct hearing after being found guilty following a criminal investigation.
“PC Antony Howlin, attached to Met Operations, was convicted of actual bodily harm at City of London Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 31 October.
“He will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, 28 November.
“PC Howlin was involved in a pursuit in Greenwich in February 2019.
“The car had failed to stop when requested to do so by officers.
“When the driver of the car stopped, PC Howlin used force to detain him.
“The suspect was later charged with aggravated vehicle taking and driving away and received a prison sentence.
“PC Howlin remains on restricted duties.”
