People are being advised to work from home as Storm Ciaran is set to hit London tomorrow.

Southern Rail has shared a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, warning people that disruption to trains tomorrow is likely to cause disruption.

It warns commuters who use Southern Rail, the Gatwick Express or Thameslink to work from home if they can and for people to avoid non-essential journeys.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for London today (Wednesday, November 1) as Storm Ciaran is looming closer to the UK.

The yellow warning for rain and wind will last until 11.59pm on Thursday (November 2).

From 3am until 1pm on Thursday, the Met Office has issued an Amber warning for wind.

The forecaster warned that very strong north-westerly winds could disrupt travel and cause structural damage to buildings while flying debris could bring a danger to life.

If train lines are closed as a result of the storm, Southern Rail has said that they will likely not be able to provide rail replacement options.

A Southern Rail spokesperson said: “Storm Ciaran is expected to cause significant disruption to trains across the south east of England on Thursday, November 2, with a risk of disruption late evening Wednesday, November 1 and the morning of Friday, November 3.

“Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink routes of London:

“You should work from home on Thursday if you can, avoiding any non-essential journeys, particularly early on Thursday morning.

“If lines are closed due to the storm it is unlikely we will be able to provide rail replacement transport.

“We expect road conditions to be very poor and equally affected by the storm.
